Having been on the planet for 75 years, in addition to coaching and training, I now try to help people with the journey of aging. Aging with intention includes the outer game of physical health, and also a big inner game, more crucial for vitality than the outer game. Our culture, no surprise, favors the outer game and is less knowledgeable about the developmental paths available as we mature. Doing programs and coaching for retirement and the post-career years is and ongoing part of John’s work.
My business centric years are behind me now, but I hope to bring that experience with me when needed. My life-long passion for the arts grows and increasingly informs my work. As an elder in a few learning communities, I stay deeply business-connected, teaching and coaching coaches at the ExCoGroup, The Hudson Institute of Coaching, and Columbia University. I still do some Vistage gigs and have given nearly 200 Vistage presentations around the world. I taught in Executive MBA programs, and am on the board for Whole Child International for children’s well-being and on the finance committee at his church.
Personally, I have a 37-year marriage to Canadian-Irish born and Omaha-raised Patricia Kane, my business partner. We prospered with a flux of several business partners, mostly turning out well. I endured the ordeal of being a long-distance dad while my two sons grew up 700 miles away. (The kids survived as well.) My two sons, both high school teachers, live in Ohio and the four grand kids, one adopted from Bulgaria, are growing up: a social worker, a policeman, and nurse to be, checking in with “pops and nana” around their busy young adult lives.
